About Gulshan
Gulshan Thana comprises an area of 8.85 km2, including Gulshan Model Town, the Baridhara Diplomatic Zone, and Niketan. It includes parts of wards 18, 19, and 20 of Dhaka North City Corporation, and borders areas like Banani, Baridhara, and Mohammadpur.
Originally a rural settlement called Bhola Gram, inhabited by migrants from Bhola District, the area was developed into a planned residential area in the early 1960s. Around 1972, Gulshan and surrounding areas were organised under the newly formed Gulshan Thana, and in 1982, the municipality was absorbed into Dhaka Municipality.
The Gulshan Thana area includes the Gulshan Lake, which acts as a buffer flood control reservoir. The area initially featured one- and two-story houses, but has since evolved into a densely developed urban zone with high-rise buildings and modern infrastructure.
Many local and multinational companies have headquarters in Gulshan, creating a significant commercial hub. There are approximately 45 boutiques, markets, and shopping centres in the area, contributing to its economic vibrancy.
Gulshan is known for its upscale restaurants, five-star hotels, shopping centres, and private clubs. It also hosts the Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park and Shahid Dr. Fazle Rabbi Park, providing recreational spaces for residents and visitors.
