About Cantonment
Cantonment Thana is situated in Dhaka, within the Dhaka Division and Dhaka district of Bangladesh. It shares borders with Turag and Uttara Thanas to the north, Tejgaon Industrial Area Thana to the south, Tejgaon, Airport, Khilkhet, Banani, and Gulshan Thanas to the east, and Kafrul and Pallabi Thanas to the west.
Cantonment Thana was formally established in 1976, becoming an administrative unit within the broader Dhaka district.
The area encompasses 14.47 square kilometers and is geographically located between 23°46' and 23°50' North latitude and 90°23' and 90°25' East longitude. The location includes areas like Matikata, Manikdi, Baganbari, Balurghat, and ECB Chattar.
The primary sources of income for residents include employment (63.97%), followed by remittances (3.88%), business (13.59%), and transportation and communication (4.25%). Agriculture contributes a small portion (1.21%), with vegetables being the main crop. The area is also involved in the export of ready-made garments and handicrafts.
Educational institutions within Cantonment Thana include Adamjee Cantonment College, Shahid Romij Uddin Cantonment College, Shahid Bir Uttam (Retd.) Anwar Girls College, BAF Shaheen College Dhaka, and BAF Shaheen College Kurmitola. Keramat Ali Islamia Madrasah is a nationally recognized institution.
